What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep Tissue Massage is a therapeutic treatment designed to target the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. Using slow, firm pressure, this massage works to release tension and break down knots that have built up over time due to stress, injury, or overuse. It focuses on specific areas of concern, such as chronic muscle stiffness, postural issues, or localized pain, making it an ideal treatment for those who experience persistent discomfort or muscle tightness.
What are the benefits?
Deep tissue massage offers a wide range of benefits that help both the body and mind recover from the effects of physical and emotional stress:
-
Relieves Chronic Muscle Pain: Deep tissue massage is highly effective for treating chronic pain conditions such as back pain, neck stiffness, or sciatica by releasing deep layers of tension.
-
Breaks Down Muscle Knots: It targets muscle adhesions and knots that cause discomfort and restrict movement, helping to improve mobility and reduce stiffness.
-
Improves Posture and Flexibility: By addressing deep tension and promoting alignment, deep tissue massage helps improve posture and range of motion, especially for those who sit for long periods or have physical jobs.
-
Promotes Faster Healing: Deep tissue massage increases blood flow and oxygen to muscles, aiding in the recovery process for athletes or anyone recovering from an injury.
-
Reduces Stress and Tension: While it focuses on physical tension, deep tissue massage also has a calming effect on the nervous system, helping to relieve emotional stress and anxiety.
-
Improves Circulation: By releasing tight muscles and tissues, the massage enhances circulation, allowing nutrients and oxygen to flow more freely and promoting overall health.
-
Eases Muscle Strain from Overuse: It’s an excellent treatment for people who engage in heavy physical activities or repetitive movements, helping to prevent injuries and keep muscles healthy.
How often should I book a session?
The frequency of Deep Tissue Massage depends on your individual needs and goals. If you suffer from chronic pain or muscular issues, booking a session every 2-4 weeks can help maintain muscle health and prevent the build-up of tension. For those recovering from an injury or dealing with persistent tightness, a more regular schedule, such as weekly sessions, may be recommended to speed up recovery. Once improvements are noticeable, you can transition to a maintenance routine, booking as needed for prevention or relaxation. Sessions lasts 60, 90 or 120 minutes, depending on your needs: a 60 mins session will be focused on a few areas of the body whereas 90 or 120 mins session allow sufficient time for a fully body massage.
What to expect during a session
A Deep Tissue Massage is a more intensive treatment compared to traditional relaxation massages. You may feel deeper pressure as your therapist works on specific problem areas, but the pressure is always adjusted to your comfort level. Some discomfort during the session is normal, especially if the muscles are particularly tight, but it should never be painful. After the massage, you may feel soreness for a day or two, similar to the feeling after a good workout. This is part of the healing process, and you’ll notice increased flexibility and reduced tension as your muscles recover.
