What is Cupping Therapy Massage?
Cupping therapy massage involves placing special cups on the skin to create suction. This suction gently pulls the skin, fascia, and muscle tissues upward, promoting increased blood flow and relieving tension deep within the muscles. The therapy helps to break up stagnant blood, release tight muscles, and encourage healing.
There are two primary types of cupping therapy: dry cupping, which involves placing the cups on the skin without movement, and massage cupping, where the cups are glided across the skin to target specific areas. Both methods are effective in relieving physical discomfort and promoting relaxation.
Cupping is highly customizable and can be applied to different areas of the body, depending on your specific needs. While it is commonly used for back, shoulder, and neck pain, it can also benefit areas affected by sports injuries, headaches, and general muscle fatigue.
What are the benefits?
Cupping therapy massage offers numerous benefits for your overall health, making it an excellent addition to your wellness routine:
-
Relieves Muscle Tension: The suction created by cupping releases tension from deep within the muscles, reducing tightness and knots that can be difficult to address with other massage techniques.
-
Improves Blood Circulation: Cupping stimulates blood flow to the affected areas, which promotes healing, reduces inflammation, and helps your body eliminate toxins.
-
Eases Chronic Pain: Whether you suffer from back pain, arthritis, or muscle soreness, cupping can provide relief by reducing pain and improving mobility.
-
Supports Recovery: Athletes and active individuals benefit from cupping as it helps accelerate muscle recovery, improves flexibility, and reduces the risk of injury.
-
Reduces Inflammation: By enhancing circulation and lymphatic drainage, cupping helps reduce swelling and inflammation, promoting faster healing for injuries.
-
Relieves Stress and Anxiety: The relaxing effects of cupping help calm the nervous system, easing stress and improving emotional balance.
How often should I book a session?
The frequency of cupping therapy massage varies depending on your health goals and physical condition. For those dealing with chronic pain, muscle tightness, or specific injuries, weekly or fortnightly sessions may be recommended to promote healing and relieve discomfort. Athletes in training or individuals with high physical demands may benefit from regular cupping sessions to enhance recovery and prevent injuries.
For general relaxation or maintenance, a monthly 90 mins session can help keep your body in optimal condition, preventing tension from building up and supporting overall well-being.
What to expect during a session
Before your session, I'll send you an electronic consultation form to understand your specific needs, any areas of discomfort, and your goals for the treatment. During the session, I will place cups on the targeted areas of your body, which create a suction effect, drawing the skin and underlying tissue upward. I'll also glide the cups across your skin to enhance blood flow and release tension more effectively.
The sensation of cupping is unique but generally feels like a deep, pulling massage. It can feel like you're being massage from the inside out! Most people find it relaxing and soothing, although it can create some temporary circular marks on the skin. These marks, often mistaken for bruises, are not painful and typically fade within a few days, though can last for up to 10 days in some cases.
After the treatment, you may feel immediate relief from muscle tension and discomfort, as well as a sense of deep relaxation.
To enhance the benefits of cupping therapy, I may recommend aftercare tips such as staying hydrated and avoiding strenuous activity immediately after your session.
